The Legend of the White Snake: A Love Across Species

The Legend of the White Snake is one of China’s four great folk tales, telling a story of love that transcends time. The heroine, Bai Suzhen, is a white snake who has cultivated herself into an immortal. She transforms into a beautiful woman and meets Xu Xian, a kind-hearted scholar. They fall in love at first sight and marry each other. However, their love faces immense challenges. Bai Suzhen's true identity is revealed, and their once happy life is disrupted by the monk Fa Hai. Fa Hai is a Buddhist monk who believes that humans and demons should never be in love and insists on separating the couple. In the end, Bai Suzhen sacrifices herself to save her husband and is trapped under the Leifeng Pagoda. She remains imprisoned for a thousand years before finally being reincarnated.
